The transition from being a manager in a particular discipline to becoming an effective leader is difficult for many people. They approach people as a project to manage, a business goal to achieve, a bottom line to increase. Even for senior managers it is an elusive progress.
Having advanced in a career through technical achievements does not mean that leadership automatically follows the career path. Additional skills and willingness to learn are essential to successfully transition from manager to leader.
